Omega 3 and Treatment of Autism

A common and very popular treatment of autism is the implementation of  omega 3 fish oil in the persons diet.  An extensive study done on the effects of omega 3 fish oil on individual’s with autism resulted in positive results in improved sleeping, cognition, social contact, eye contact and general health.  Omega 3 fatty acids are mainly composed of DHA (omega 3) and EPA,  The main source of omega 3 fatty acid is found in fish and its corresponding supplements.  Many Americans consume way too much omega 6 fatty acids which in turn has a bad effect on the health.  Most of American consumption of omega 6 and omega 3 runs in the ratio of 20:1 or even 50:1 respectively.  This is why the average American is in dire need of an omega 3 supplement.

The list of benefits that omega 3 fish oil consumption has on the body is numerous, and this includes the treatment of autism.  Omega 3 helps the brain development by making the its cell membranes function better, by whipping them into shape.  It has also been proved by scientific research that omega 3 promotes development of neurons in the brain.  This also helps make the myelin sheaths that engulf the brain stronger.

Omega 3 helps in regulating energy levels as well as normalizes the blood sugar levels. It also helps concentration as well as mental vividness.  Using omega 3 supplements helps with anxiety, mood swings and depression.  It is especially significant in the treatment of autism.  The entire body benefits from ingesting omega 3 , from physical development to relaxing the body from anxiety and jitteriness to developing brain cells.  All of these aspects can aide in the treatment of autism.

Aggressive behavior is usually accompanied with autism.  Fish oil helps the treatment of behavioral disorders.  Some researchers suggest that deficiencies in fatty acids are a cause for behavioral disorders.  A study has linked fish oil with the reduction of hyperactivity and the reduced repetitive activity that is associated with autism.

Omega 3 supplements are an important dietary supplement for everyone, especially for those who have increased chance of various illnesses due to family history such as cancer, high blood pressure and a potential aide in treating autism.  Research has proven omega 3 fatty acid’s effect on brain development.  This development subsequently aides in aggressive behavior, and develops general better health.
