Fish Oil Arthritis

If you have rheumatoid arthritis or know anyone who does, you know exactly how painful it can be.  One proven conventional method in treating rheumatoid arthritis is the consumption of omega 3 fish oil.  Fish oil serves as a great pain relief method with the added bonus of not having any complicated or dangerous side effects.  On the other hand, the most common prescription drug offered to patients with rheumatoid arthritis is a ‘nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory’ drug, or NSAIDS for short.  This type of drug has proven to lead to many complicated side effects.  These side effects result in harsh gastrointestinal complications that not only cause hospitalizations, but also result in thousands of deaths per year.  Not only does this type of medication cause complicated side effects but it is also linked to cardiovascular disease, causing sudden heart failure in patients taking this type of drug.

Rheumatoid arthritis patients before even consuming NSAIDS are at risk at two times the rate of a healthy individual to experience heart failure and sudden heart attacks.  It seems senseless to increase this rate with a prescribed drug that helps reduce the pain but in effect risks the patient’s life.  There is an alternative to NSAIDS and that is omega 3 fish oil. Fish oil is a powerful, natural antidote that helps relieve pain and protects the heart from disease.

It is astounding the results of numerous studies on patients who have arthritis and have begun taking fish oil to relieve their pain.  Many patients who suffer from painful joints and severe stiffness in the morning due to their arthritis have been able to reduce their dependences on NSAIDS greatly and/or continued use of NSAIDS altogether.

A study conducted by the Journal of Rheumatology, October 2006, reports that 75% of patients who began using fish oil as a pain reliever completely eliminated their use of NSAIDS.  Not only was fish oil an effective pain reliever with no serious side effects but the health benefits went beyond just pain relief.  The study also showed that the individual’s who took part in the research also raised their HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol) levels, in addition to reducing their triglyceride levels.  Those who conducted the study recommended that for those who are in pursuit of an effective pain reliever, and those who do not want to increase their chances of cardiovascular risk (everyone, right?) would use fish oil as their primary method of pain relief for rheumatoid arthritis.
It is time for modern medicine to step aside in the case of rheumatoid arthritis and pain relief and give omega 3 fish oil to there patients.  Doctor’s who have patients with cardiovascular disease or rheumatoid arthritis need to make their patients aware of the benefits of fish oil on not only their pain but also their hearts.
