Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, for short is a psychiatric disorder found in children and adults.  This psychiatric disorder is highly studied and it affects anywhere from 3% to 5% of children worldwide.  ADHD usually starts before the child is seven years old and 30% to 50% of those affected by ADHD in their childhood carry it into adulthood.  Although teenagers and adults who have ADHD usually create coping methods to make up for some of their impairments, living with ADHD as a child or an adult, as well as hardships for caretakers, is extremely difficult.  In the past few decades research has proven that omega 3 fish oil has an extraordinarily positive effect on overall health, fish oil and its positive effects on ADHD are no exception.  Omega 3 fish oil has proven to help the brain focus and concentrate.  It also helps those with ADHD relieve their jitterness allowing them to be more focused, settled and attentive.  This in itself provides relief for the person affected by ADHD as well as the caretaker involved.

We know that oily fish like salmon, tuna and sardines are all fish high in fatty acid, these fish can be the source of omega 3 fatty acid intake but we can never be certain of their mercury levels, or their toxin levels.  In order to maximize the benefits of omega 3 , it is highly suggested that you get omega 3 in a supplement that is cleared of any toxins.

Research studies in developed Western nations have proven that children who added omega 3 fish oil to their diets showed an increase in their attention spans which lead to higher achievements in school.  This is especially important and effective for children with ADHD.  Comparing children with ADHD who received fish oil as part of their regular diets had increased attention spans as well, results that were not shown in children who had received placebo.

A study conducted on students who had a scale rating of impulsivity of 89% and a scale rating of 94% of inattentiveness, after a period of three months of receiving omega 3 fish oil the numbers reduced drastically.  From 94% inattentiveness to a low 17% inattentiveness, and from 89% impulsivity it fell to 28% impulsivity.  These are astounding numbers and it proves the strength of the natural remedy found in omega 3 fish oil.

Children with ADHD usually have low volumes of omega 3 fatty acids intake in their bodies.  Children who would normally be at risk of exclusion because of their behavioral problems associated with ADHD now have a chance to overcome many obstacles posed by the disorder with the help of omega 3 fish oil.  By increasing the omega 3 fatty acids in their diets, it will aid in their brain development and lessen the burden of this disorder on themselves and their caretakers.
